Chen Zhiguang was born in 1963 in Xiamen, China. In 1988, he graduated from the Art Department at Fujian Normal University. He is currently the Director of the Contemporary Art Institute at Fujian Normal University. He lives and works in Beijing and Zhangzhou.
Since 1986, Chen Zhiguang has held over a dozen solo exhibitions in Fuzhou, Xiamen, Beijing, Suzhou, and Shanghai. In the twenty-first century, the unique vision of his series Ants has been widely recognized by the art world both inside and outside of China. He was invited to participate in international art exhibitions in Austria, Germany, France, South Korea, the Netherlands, Sweden, and the United States, including the Shanghai Biennale, the Animamix Biennial, and the OpenART Biennial.
In 2009, Chen Zhiguang was invited to participate in the US Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program. In 2013, the media named him “China’s Most Visually Impactful Artist.” In 2015, he founded the Ant Nest Art Museum in Zhangzhou.
