Jaffa Lam was born in 1973 in Fuzhou, China. Lam received her BFA, MFA, and Postgraduate Diploma in Education at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. She is now a Senior Lecturer and Programme Coordinator at the Hong Kong Art School. She currently lives and works in Hong Kong.

Lam is a sculptor specializing in large site-specific and mixed-media sculptures and installations, which are primarily made with recycled materials such as crate wood, old furniture, and umbrella fabric. In recent years, she has been involved in many public art and community projects in Hong Kong and overseas. Her works often explore issues of local culture, history, society, and current affairs.

In addition to solo exhibitions, Lam has been invited to take part in many local and international exhibitions, as well as residency programs, in Kenya, Taiwan, Bangladesh, China, the United States, and Canada. In 2006, she received the Asian Cultural Council’s Desiree and Hans Michael Jebsen Fellowship.

In 2009, she started a community project in Hong Kong entitled Micro Economy. At the invitation of the Hong Kong Arts Centre, Lam staged the exhibition “Jaffa Lam Laam Collaborative: Weaver,” to highlight this project. The piece was also shown at the Setouchi Triennale in Japan, Hong Kong Week in Taiwan, and “China 8” in Germany.
